The Buford Housing Authority (BHA) operates the Public Housing program in the cities of Duluth, Sugar Hill and Flowery Branch. In Buford the BHA operates the RAD PBRA and Low-Income Housing Tax Credit (LIHTC) programs. An applicant must be certified and approved for both RAD PBRA and LIHTC in order to initially move into an apartment in Buford, Georgia.
Tenants who meet the eligibility requirements for Public Housing and RAD PBRA pay 30% of their income towards rent while the remainder is subsidized by HUD. At the BHA, the apartments that are RAD PBRA are either renovated or newly built utilizing the LIHTC program. Therefore, all potential tenants and current tenants for these apartments must qualify and recertify with both programs each year in order to continue to reside in their designated apartments. Public Housing apartments in Duluth, Sugar Hill and Flowery Branch do not participate in the LIHTC program and therefore are only required to be recertified annually under the Public Housing program.
